Aggregate Impact Testing Machine
The Aggregate Impact Testing Machine determines the resistance of coarse aggregate to sudden impact or shock loading, which can differ from its resistance to gradual crushing loads. A standard aggregate sample is placed in a cup fixed to a rigid base, and a hammer of specified weight is repeatedly dropped onto the sample from a fixed height. The impact value is calculated from the proportion of fines produced. This property is particularly relevant for aggregate used in pavement surfacing and other applications subject to impact loading.
Required for determining the Impact Value of coarse aggregate.
It consists of the following :-
Impact Tester Fitted with an automatic blow counter.
(ii) A heavy circular base with two vertical guides fitted with a cross bar at the top.
(iii) A hammer of 13.75 kg mass which can be raised and allowed to fall freely through 380 ±5 mm with locking arrangement.
(iv) A cylindrical cup, a metal measure and a tamping rod 10 mm dia x 230 mm long.
