Lateral Extensometer

The Lateral Extensometer is used alongside the compressometer to measure the lateral (transverse) strain of a concrete cylinder specimen under compressive load, allowing determination of Poisson's ratio in addition to the modulus of elasticity. It is clamped around the circumference of the specimen at the mid-height gauge section, with a sensitive dial gauge or digital sensor recording the small lateral expansion as the specimen is compressed.

This equipment is for the determination of lateral extension of 150 mm dia x 300 mm high cement concrete cylinders while testing them in compression. The extensometer consists of two movable frames pivoted at one end. A dial gauge measures the lateral extension, and a removable spacer strip is for the initial setting of the dial gauge. Mounting of extensometer on the specimen is with the help of screws.

With dial gauge 0.002×5mm or -DG dial gauge digital 0.001×25 mm.
