Ring & Ball Apparatus (Softening Point)

The Ring and Ball Apparatus is used to determine the softening point of bitumen — the temperature at which the material softens sufficiently to allow a standard steel ball, resting on a bitumen-filled ring, to sink through a specified distance under the ball's own weight as the sample is heated at a controlled rate in a water or glycerine bath. The softening point is an important indicator of a bitumen grade's temperature susceptibility and suitability for a given climate/application. Each equipment is supplied with a bath of heat resistant glass and Tapered Rings-2 Nos.,Ball Centering Guide-2 Nos,Steel Balls of 9.5 mm dia-2 Nos,Ring holder-1 No,Electric Heater (Hot Plate)-1 No.
