Blaine Air Permeability Apparatus
The Air Permeability Apparatus (Blaine Type) is used to determine the specific surface (fineness) of cement and similar fine powders by measuring the resistance offered by a compacted bed of the material to the flow of air through it. A prepared cement sample is packed into a permeability cell to a standard porosity, and air is drawn through the bed using a manometer or U-tube connected to an aspirator/pump. The time taken for a given volume of air to pass through the compacted bed is recorded and used, along with standard calibration constants, to calculate the specific surface area in cm²/g. This is a key quality-control parameter for cement manufacturers, as fineness directly affects the rate of hydration and early strength development.
It is a variable flow type Air Permeability Apparatus.
The equipment consists of the following:
Permeability Cell, 'U' Tube Manometer, mounted on stand, Perforated Metal Disc,Plunger,Rubber Stopper, Rubber Tube, 20 cm long, Filter Paper Discs (Twelve Nos.),Punch., on Perforated Disc, Suction Bulb
