Cement Testing Equipment
Le-Chatelier Flask
The Le-Chatelier Flask is a specific gravity flask used to determine the density (specific gravity) of cement. It is a glass flask with a graduated neck of small bore, allowing precise volume readings. A weighed sample of cement is introduced into the flask filled with kerosene (or a suitable non-reactive liquid) up to an initial reading, and the rise in liquid level after the cement is added is used to calculate the volume displaced, from which the specific gravity is determined. This is a routine test in cement quality control and is also used in concrete mix design calculations.
