Vicat Apparatus
The Vicat Apparatus is a standard laboratory instrument used to determine the standard consistency, initial setting time, and final setting time of cement paste. It consists of a frame carrying a movable rod with adjustable weights, fitted with interchangeable attachments — a plunger for consistency testing, and needles (Vicat needle) for setting time determination. A cement paste sample of known water content is prepared and placed in a mould; the rod is released and allowed to penetrate the paste under its own weight, with the depth of penetration read off a graduated scale. This test is fundamental to cement quality control and mix design, ensuring the cement sets within acceptable time limits for construction use.
The Equipment consists of a Vicat Mould, Glass Base Plate, Initial Needle (in Plastic Case), Final Needle, Consistency Plunger, Mild Steel Base Plate, Vicat Mould Split Type, with Clamping Ring.
